Dr. S. M. Zulfiqar Ali is a renowned development economist with over 25 years of experience in poverty reduction, social protection, and policy advocacy. He currently serves as the Chairperson of Unnayan Shamannay. He also serves as Research Director at BIDS, he also held key roles at BRAC International and the EEP/Shiree Programme. Dr. Ali has led numerous national and international research initiatives and remains a prominent voice in shaping inclusive development policy in Bangladesh.

He is a renowned economist and expert on contemporary economic affairs of Bangladesh. He is an Emeritus Fellow at Unnayan Shamannay.
He is a sociologist, researcher and part-time faculty member. He studied Sociology from Chittagong University, Bangladesh and Development Studies from the University of Wales, Swansea, United Kingdom.
He is an expert in the areas of baseline studies, Mid-term evaluation, Impact Assessment, Quantitative Analysis, qualitative tool development and study designing.
He is experienced in project management and field coordination for more than twenty years. He was involved in project management and coordination in many studies.
