Bangladesh’s importance in the geopolitical context have been increasing in the post-cold war era, and the countries strategic importance to international stakeholders has been being reinforced by its impressive economic performance specially over the last 15 years. In the coming decade or so, as Bangladesh moves toward becoming a developed country- its salience as a regional economic hub will continue to increase. Discussants at a book discussion session organized by Unnayan Shamannay said so today (Thursday, 07 March 2024). The discussants focused on the contents of the recently published book from Bloomsbury Publishing India, Pvt. Limited titled “Bangladesh A New Journey”. The session was facilitated at the Khondkar Ibrahim Khaled conference hall at the organization’s office premises at Dhaka.
The book discussion session was Chaired by former Governor of Bangladesh Bank and an Emeritus Professor of Dhaka University- Dr. Atiur Rahman. The editor of the book and a Professor of O P Jindal Global University, India- Dr. Sreeradha Datta was present to present an overview of the issues covered in the book. Dr. Iqbal Singh Sevea (Director, ISAS, National University of Singapore); Dr. Delwar Hossain (Professor, International Relations, Dhaka University); and former Ambassador Md. Abdul Hannan were present as panel discussants.
Sreeradha Datta pointed out that she and the 12 other internationally acclaimed thinkers/analysts has attempted to present the context, prospects and challenges associated with this growing regional salience of Bangladesh. Dr. Atiur Rahman, in his remarks as the Chair inferred that Bangladesh’s socioeconomic advancements in the coming decade relies heavily on realization of the countries potential as a regional economic hub.
